Our friends over at IGN looks at the first UFC video game since 2004, “UFC 2009 Undisputed” is scheduled to be released sometime next spring. Bolstering a roster of 80+ UFC fighters - including fan favorites BJ Penn, Anderson Silva, Chuck Liddel and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.  From the sounds of things, developer & publisher THQ are trying really hard to make this a game of skill and not a button mashing mess.

the idea being that a UFC fighter must constantly be aware of his surroundings and situation, and must be ready to act at a moment’s notice with a specific, contextual move, countermove, or defense. - IGN’s Bill Barnwell

Judging from the footage - the game looks fantastic, and it seems to play just as good. The movement looks fluid, the collision detection looks super accurate and combined with the crisp striking - the gameplay is shaping up to be on point. We at MMAjitsu are also avid gamers and you can bet your ass we’ll have a review of the game as it comes out next spring 2009.  :)
