TUF7 Finale: C.B. Dalloway vs Amir Sadollah Review

Amir Sadollah - The Ulimate Fighter 7 Champion

The long awaited rematch between the All American wrestler and favorite to win the whole thing, C.B Dollaway and the self deprecating yet personality filled muay thai practitioner, Amir Sadollah took place last night on Spike TV’s broadcast of The Ultimate Fighter Finale.  When all is said and done, the brief fight summed up exactly what each fighter was about…

Striking: 7 out of 10

Both Amir and C.B. came out poised and started the fight feeling each other out with some quick kicks, C.B starting off with a couple leg kicks and Amir answered with his patented front kick. Just like their first match Amir proved to be a little more accurate as his front kicks landed with alittle more authority, although this time they did not set anything up for him.

CB showed some improvement in his stand up game by being patient and mixing up his kicks by targeting the leg and following through with higher head kicks to keep Amir off balance.  Of course the wrestler in CB came out as he used his stand up to duck underneath one of Amir’s left hooks to quickly grab a hold and bring the action to the ground where the rest of the fight would take place.

Ground:  8 out of 10

CB was in true form when he took Amir to the ground with a powerful takedown - what was particularly impressive is that CD immediately tried to isolate one of Amir’s arm underneath him to make it easier to control him.  As soon as he could CB tried to posture up and rain down some punches on the squirming Amir.

It was easy to tell that CB really wanted this fight; his intensity was non-stop and in spite of Amir’s best efforts on the bottom he was able to slip past his half guard and get into a more dominate position in side control. Pushing Amir into the cage CB was determined to pound his face through the canvas, as a defense Amir straightened his legs out to stiffle CB’s attempts but that did not matter as CB was able to go through Amir’s defense and rain down some heavy punches that landed flush on Amir’s face while holding his legs in the standing position.

This is when things started to go terribly terribly wrong…

JUjitsu: 7.2 out of 10

As consistent as always, Amir’s strategy (similiar to that of Nate Diaz ;p) was to let the more powerful fighter beat on him for awhile - probably to trick him into thinking he is winning. Well this worked to perfection as CB made a HUGE mistake by leaving one of his hands behind for a split second while working on the aforementioned beating.

The wiley Amir quickly saw this opportunity to latch on and use it as leverage to throw his legs over CB’s head and lock in the armbar - the same move that ended their first fight during the semi-finals. As a desperate measure by most, and which almost never ever works (editor: unless you’re Rampage and your opponent is Richardo Arona) CB tries to slam Amir to get out of it. This only made the armbar tighter, as Amir cinched it CB was forced to make a tapping jesture.  Herb Dean quickly jumped in and probably saved CB’s arm - CB didnt share the same sentiment as he was very upset at the stoppage.

Judging by the reply he should’ve thanked Herb for saving him months of rehabilitation from suffering a snapped arm bone.

Overal: 7.5 out of 10

In the post fight interview, Amir’s first reaction was to say something funny.  He thanked everyone for coming out and was seemingly blown away by talking with Joe Rogan -  great stuff.

Their first encounter ended up being alittle more exciting, but the outcome the same; Amir Sadollah wins via armbar and becomes The Ultimate Fighter. Congratulations to him - well deserved.
