Affliction: Banned projected PPV between 50,000 and 85,000 buys

Affliction Banned PPV

Dave Meltzer, writer for Yahoo! Sports, has released his projections on Affliction: Banned PPV numbers, and it doesn’t look good. The general consensus is that Affliction had to have sold around 200,000 PPV to break even, lets hope this turns out to be a worthy investment in the medium-long term as Affliction definately has the potential to be a great promotion.

“As far as the numbers went, the big number everyone is looking for is the Affliction PPV number. Based on independent estimates we’ve heard, the number has been estimated at between 50,000 and 85,000 buys. Atencio claimed the number as being higher, saying it topped 100,000, although at press time, any numbers could only be considered rough estimates. Atencio told us that since UFC doesn’t release numbers, he’s not going to either (I know, after saying it was more than 100,000). Keep in mind that Pride claimed 150,000 buys for its first U.S. PPV in 2006, and the real number ended up being 40,000 (we know that because Nevada taxes on PPV revenue so you can get a real number; California does not so getting real numbers will be more difficult).”

Kurt Pellegrino vs Thiago Tavares UFC 88

Thiago Tavares vs Kurt Pellegrino UFC 88
Kurt “Batman” Pellegrino will take on Thiago Tavares on September 6th as part of the UFC 88: Breakthrough card in Atlanta. Pellegrino (11-4) is coming off a loss to The Ulimate Fighter winner Nate Diaz via triangle choke in round 3 and Tavares was recently knocked out by TUF alumni Matt Wiman - so both fighters need a win to get back into the contender picture.

According to French website fightsport.fr, newly WAMMA heavyweight champ Fedor Emelianenko will face Andre “The Pitbull” Arlovski in the next Affliction event this November. If that isn’t enough, he’s supposing that he will then head over to Japan to once again face Mirko Cro Cop in the DREAM promotion in December.

I do not know yet the name of my adversary in Dream, probably Mirko Cro Cop
