TUF7: Jesse Taylor vs Tim Credeur

TUF7: Jesse Taylor vs Tim Credeur

The first semi-final match up we have a classic wrestler going up against a JUjitsu practitioner in Jesse Taylor and Tim Credeur. One of the more colorful characters in the house is Jesse Taylor, a genetic freak - able to get completely bombed, wet his pants in the hot tub, and eat all kinds of crap the night before the fight AND still make weight. On top of that - he’s able to impose his will on his opponents with his sheer strength and tenacity. The owner of multiple nicknames including “JT Money” - for when he means business and “Coco the Monkey” - for when he’s zipping around the house with a bottle of vodka in his clutches. For all intensive purposes I will be referring to Jesse Taylor as Coco (The Monkey) as much as humanly possible.

The other end of the spectrum we have Tim Credeur, a very classy and compassionate guy Tim takes care of Coco during his hilarious benders, and even gives him pointers on avoiding submissions just before their fight.  A veteran of the sport and using the show as a last ditch effort to make it in the UFC, he may not be as athletic as the others on the show but he is very wily, slick and clever due to his experience.

With all of the house antics, when it comes down to the fight - their friendship is put away and it’s pure business.  Neither holding back and both trying to implement their strengths to earn the victory - it’s too bad the fight wasn’t as exciting as Coco the Monkey…

Wrestling: 6.5 out of 10

Not as technically sound as someone like Sean Sherk, Coco was definately game for this fight. At the start of each round Coco almost immediately shot in and double legged or dragged Tim to the ground.  For someone with 10 years of experience, and considered to be one of the better fighters in the house, Tim Credeur’s takedown defense was really really terrible.  Only sprawling one time to avoid the initial shoot, all Coco had to do was work the double leg and he was able to bring Tim down and work his ground and pound.

While in Tim’s guard, Jesse never really felt the need to improve his position, never attempted to pass guard, just content grinding Tim down, avoiding or powering out of submissions for 3 minutes.  As with most wrestler turn mma fighter, Coco was cool with earning a decision through relentless ground and pound.

After the jump we look at Tim’s JUjitsu, Coco’s ground game as well as the overall score…
